In the short time that Art&Seek has had a Flickr group photo page up and running, more than 130 beautiful, high-quality photos have been uploaded to the site. We definitely have some talented photographers in North Texas, and in recognition of that talent, we will begin the Art&Seek Flickr Photo of the Week.

To participate, all you need to do is upload your photo(s) to to our Flickr group page. The contest week will run from Monday to Sunday, and the Art&Seek staff will pick a winner on Monday afternoon. We’ll notify the winner through FlickrMail (so be sure to check those inboxes) and ask you to fill out a short survey to tell us a little more about yourself and the photo you took. We’ll post the winners’ photo on Wednesday.

To kick off our contest, we picked the best photo of those submitted so far. J.R. Ball’s photo that he took in June caused one of our judges to audibly gasp — a sure sign that the photo made an impact. Here’s more from J.R.:

Name: J.R. Ball
Title: Shaky Ground
Equipment: Nikon D300 w/ 18-135 AF-S
Tell us more about your photo: Living in McKinney, the horse to human ratio is nearly 1:1. Perhaps that’s why this statue of a mare and her colt had such an impact on me. Somehow the stoic grace of their chiseled silhouettes makes me truly appreciate my equestrian neighbors. Minus the smell.

You can see more of J.R.’s work both on his Flickr page and one his personal Web site, www.jrballphotography.com.
