According to the folks at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, one pane of the red glass panels that will cover the five-story-tall auditorium of the Winspear Opera House has successfully been installed.  To read about the glass and view the process of its assembly, check out my feature story. There’s only one pane of glass so far — and probably only a handful of others will go up this week — because they’re testing everything out, seeing how it’ll hold. Also, putting the glass panels into the frames on the wall of the auditorium is an involved process (they have to put them in in a particular pattern, for instance, and some of the panels have been specially cut to fit particular places).

So even when the crews get up to speed, the estimate is that only 7 panels will go up per day. The schedule says they should all be up ’round about the end of the year. But given the intense red color, given the size of the building and given its prominent place along Woodall Rogers, the Winspear will look like a giant traffic light long before then.
