Wall Street Journal critic Terry Teachout is the librettist for a new opera, The Letter, composed by Paul Moravec and based on a short story by W. Somerset Maughaum — to be premiered by the Santa Fe Opera next year. In his blog, About Last Night, Teachout writes about how the New Mexican landscape has bewitched painters like Marsden Hartley (currently on exhibit at the Amon Carter) and how the Santa Fe Opera house sets the scene for any work there — by being so much a part of that landscape.
