I had an opportunity to have a chat with the Sarah Gavron the director and Tannishtha Chatterjee the star of Brick Lane a new film based on the novel by Monica Ali. We talked about how this film is more complex then most films about traditional culture including arraigned marriages and facing modernity, the Indian indie film world, the effect of 9/11 on the characters in the film, the nature of home, the 2 kinds of love, and the power of close ups.
