Jim Bumgardner, a.k.a. JBum a.k.a. Krazydad, participates, develops, and makes thoughtful work about the phenomenon of the mass proliferation and distribution of visual information. Bumgardner works at Yahoo as a designer and programmer, maintains a blog (krazydad.com) and flickr page, teaches art and lectures on a variety of technology and art related topics. Bumgardner’s Time Graphs uses the mass amounts of images uploaded to flickr everyday along with the information tagged to those photographs. In Sunset by Time Bumgardner uses approximately 15,000 photographs tagged with the keyword “sunset”. These images are then graphed using the data stamp embedded into the photographic data from digital cameras. The resulting image shows a gentle curving line with the low point corresponding with the summer solstice.
Jim Bumgardner is a senior developer with Yahoo!’s entertainment division, a instructor at Art Center in Pasadena, and a self proclaimed hobbyist with a passion for making graphic and music software. His personal website, KrazyDad, is a showcase for Jim’s more recent software experiments. Jim is the founder of the Flickr Hacks group on Flickr. Jim used the Flickr API to create the innovative Flickr Color Pickr, the Flickr Chia Pet, and a number of beautiful mosaic images and posters.
