La Reunion TX has a sculptural installation in the AIA Retrospect Exhibit at NorthPark Center! I photographed brother and sister team Tyler and Molly Sharp as they nailed, tied, and bolted together a gorgeous display for the winners of ‘Make Space for Art’, La Reunion’s juried architecture program. Kevin Obregon was the third artist involved in the project and the three of them created a piece made entirely of found materials from the La Reunion site and borrowed bits from other artists. Green Living in Lakewood donated stains for the bark and Artizen donated printing of the four winning entries. Speaking of featured entries: Bang Dang of Dallas is first prize. Michael Panacci of Brooklyn, Ontario, Canada is second, Lucia Perez + Ines Fernandez of New York are third and Sofia Fernandes + Tiago Carvalho won the special ‘sustainable’ prize. Plans can be seen on the La Reunion TX site.

Tyler Sharp was a La Reunion TX Tree Carving artist back in February. We knew we wanted to have a display area in the Retrospect exhibit and when we approached Tyler to be the lead artist on the project, he cheerfully agreed. He then brought in Molly and Kevin (also Tree Carving artists) to round out the team. The artists had a brainstorming session with architects from Perkins-Will, led by Sean Garman, and next thing we knew, the rough sketch of a plan was hatched. Tyler worked tirelessly with Molly and Kevin to harvest found materials and weave, stain, and screw together a stunning sculptural work to feature the ‘Make Space for Art’ winners. More info on ‘Make Space for Art’ can be found on the La Reunion TX site. Jury facilitator is Mark Gunderson, AIA of Ft. Worth. Other jurors include Dr. Rick Brettell of UTD, Louise Harpman, of UT Austin, Rick Lowe of Project Rowe Houses in Houston, and Max Levy, FAIA of Dallas.
