The American Institute of Architects – Dallas has announced the winning design for the interior of the new Dallas Design Center. The top entry was submitted by Peter Doncaster, AIA of Booziotis & Co. Architects (Dallas) in collaboration with Nicholas Marshall, AIA of nodesign (New Orleans) and Gabriel Smith, AIA of Thomas Phifer and Partners (New York).
The downtown center is located at 1909 Woodall Rodgers Freeway — overlooking the freeway, the future site of Woodall Rodgers Park and across from what will be the work of five Pritzker Prize-winning architects: I. M. Pei (the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center), Renzo Piano (the Nasher Sculpture Garden), Sir Norman Foster (the Winspear Opera House), Rem Koolhas (the Charles and Dee Wyly Theatre) and Thom Mayne (the Dallas Museum of Nature & Science).
What’s also notable about the design center is that it will be “green” — that is, LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) — including low-consumption fixtures and reused materials.
