KERA’s Bill Zeeble reports the Dallas Historical Society has recovered the missing objects cited in this blog and on air last week. The box containing valuable artifacts such as Gen. Santa Anna’s brass spurs and desk paperweight, the Bible belonging to John Neely Bryan’s wife and one-of-a kind historical photos, among others were found at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. The DHS had hosted its major fundraising luncheon, The Awards for Excellence, at the hotel on Nov. 15 and according to Executive Director Michael Duty, apparently the box was left behind.

Bill will have more this afternoon, and as I disclosed during my prior blog entry about the objects, I serve on the DHS board, but Bill got the news before I did today.

Seems to me that DHS needs to review their procedures with regards to checking out and checking in artifacts that have been removed from the Hall of State.
I would also hope that they would use a more secure transport method than a cardboard carton

  • I understand the DHS has been reviewing the security procedures and no doubt this will result in stricter policies.

I was watching eBay for those spurs. Darn!

PS: It seems that ‘Prison Break’ production company was falsely accused of being the original culprit shooting on location.
