Such is the life of your faithful Deep in the Arts Calendar editor and producer. There’s never enough room (or time) to squeeze in everything that’s out there, so one of my main goals for our brand new blog (and thanks to Alan Melson for making it happen!) is to plug the happenings that slip out from under the on-air radar. Here are just a few for the weekend…
‘The 15th Annual White Rock Lake Artists’ Studio Tour’ – How can you possibly go wrong with 4 art centers, 40 art studios and 46 artists?
‘Day of The Dead – Ofrenda Seminar’ – Hosted by Casa Mexicana, this free seminar (every Saturday through October 27th) will teach you everything you need to know about the how to construct your very own Day of the Dead ofrenda (altar), and delve into the roots of the holiday itself.
The Vintage Flying Museum’s ’17th Annual Big Band Hangar Dance and Silent Auction Fundraiser’ – Dance all night to the big band sounds of The Alan Glasscock Orchestra, under the shadow of a B-17 Flying Fortress in the museum’s authentic WWII hangar.
’12th Annual ArmeniaFest!’ – Perhaps a touch ironic in light of this week’s tension in U.S.-Turkish relations, but if kebabs, stuffed grape leaves and baklava are calling your name, head to Carrollton for this yearly treat.
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents ‘A John Williams Adventure: Star Wars & Beyond’ – The genius of John Williams never ceases to amaze. And to mark the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, the FWSO goes galactic for the weekend, with the second half of the show being dedicated entirely to the music from the film.
