Abbey Grill Restaurant
The Abbey Grill is an exciting restaurant that hosts a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre every Saturday night.
About The Abbey Grill:
The railroad tracks were completed through the Frisco area and a depot was built in 1901. Some of the people living nearby on the Preston Trail moved their belongings, with some even moving their homes, and found a new town called FRISCO in honor of the railroad.
Shortly thereafter, a group of Methodists from the small community of Bethel, about three miles to the North, moved their church building to this newly established town. The original church was one of the first non-residential buildings in the town. The land on which it stood was given by one of their members, Ms. Abbey Allen. The Methodists shared their church with other denominations including the Baptists.
In August 1902, another small group of people met with the purpose of organizing a new church which they would call First Baptist Church of Frisco. In September of that year the corner of Main and Seventh was bought by the Baptist group for $250.00. Soon thereafter the Baptists began construction of a new building which was completed in 1904.
The Abbey Texas Café now occupies this building. It rests on a foundation of d'arc logs and was of all wood construction.
Numerous additions and renovations occurred over the years. In 1914 a belfry was built. A later bill tower now serves as the sign stand for the Old Church Center.
After additional land was acquired in 1923, the entire church building was lifted by teams of horses and mules and turned to fact the present direction.
Around 1939 the church was expanded and bricked.
The congregation built a two story Sunday School building in 1949/1950 at a total cost of $15,000. This completed the overall building as it stands today.
The congregation having need for larger facilities moved to a new home in 1974. The original church building was renovated to its present condition in 1984.
