Every Child Ready to Read @ Dallas
The Dallas Public Library joined in partnership with several other arts and literacy organizations as part of a groundbreaking partnership called Thriving Minds. As part of Thriving Minds, the Dallas Public Library implemented Every Child Ready to Read @ Dallas. This program focuses on early literacy, which is everything children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write.
Our goal is to educate parents, caregivers and childcare providers by offering free pre-literacy workshops for three age levels: Early Talkers (birth to age 2), Talkers (ages 2-3) and Pre-Readers (ages 4-5) in community locations across Dallas. Enthusiastic library staff and trained facilitators provide free, fun, interactive early-literacy workshops for parents, caregivers and childcare providers. By learning how the arts and six pre-reading skills fit into everyday routines, participants will be empowered to help their children be ready to learn how to read when they enter school. They will also take home a list of recommended books, a craft activity, and a free children's book to start a lifetime love of reading.
