Today in the Art&Seek spotlight, we feature Jake Heggie’s local appearance for “Turning the Page: The Journey of Moby-Dick to The Dallas Opera Stage.” For more on the event:

FIND: Check out the event listing on Art&Seek.org for complete information on how to attend.

REACT: Did anyone make it out to see Heggie’s discussion in February of Dead Man Walking with Fort Worth Opera’s Darren Woods? (If you didn’t, you can watch a video of the discussion on the Opera’s Scoop blog). For those considering heading out to see Heggie in Dallas on Saturday, was the Fort Worth appearance enlightening?

DISCUSS: Other books have been translated into operas, including Henry James’ The Aspern Papers, Porgy and Bess and the aforementioned Dead Man Walking. Which one is the greatest? And what about Moby-Dick do you think will make for compelling opera?

CREATE: The Fort Worth Opera is sponsoring a contest to create movie trailers for shows in its upcoming season. To date, more than 80 entries have been submitted, including many for Dead Man Walking. You can watch them on the Opera’s YouTube channel as well as submit one of your own. The winner receives a Mac book, so it’s definitely worth your time.
