Denton City Contemporary Ballet

Denton City Contemporary Ballet (DCCB) was founded in 1989 by its Artistic Director, Lisa Racina. The company consists of 20 dancers (male and female) and is a Texas 501 C3 tax exempt corporation. The goals of DCCB are community enrichment, youth outreach, and professional development. It is with these goals in mind that the company sponsors the Annual Collage Dance Festival held each spring in downtown Denton’s historic district at the Campus Theatre bringing together guest choreographers, companies, and artists to the stage along with the dancers in DCCB.

This company also sponsors and provides the lead roles in the annual “A Gift for Emma” production. Bringing together professionals and young dancers on the same stage, this production provides a wonderful vehicle for training dancers, as well as entertaining the whole family with worthwhile themes of aspiring to become the best at something, working hard to achieve that goal, and finally, giving back to others the gifts that have been given.

In addition to the Collage Dance Festival and “A Gift for Emma,” the Denton City Contemporary Ballet also sponsors the Denton City Contemporary Ballet Summer Study Scholarship given out annually through the Dance Council of North Texas through video auditions in February.

DCCB also sponsors the Community Master Class Series, an open-to-the-community event, in which world reknown dancers instructors teach specialty classes in their area of expertise to Denton dancers and beyond!  Such respectable master teachers as James Clouser, Thom Clower, Comfort Fedoke, Elizabeth Gillaspy, Chris Koehl, Janice LaPointe Krump, Olga Pavlova, Stephanie Rand, Lesley Snelson-Figueroa, Arlene Sugano, Nathan Trice, and more have honored the Conservatory’s studios through the Master Class Series!

In 2011, the company started the Educational Touring Program for Dancers, traveling to Austria and performing with the Young Tanzsommer Dance Festival. DCCB repeated this unique experience with a whole new set of dancers in the summer of 2014. In 2017, the company traveled to New York City and took part in master classes at the Ailey School, studied with dancers from the American Ballet Theatre, toured Radio City Music Hall and had master classes with performers from the Rockettes, and more!
