Beckles Dancing Company

Beckles Dancing Company is a multi-cultural dancing company, founded in 1995 by Andre R. George as a nova, a dancers' company!

The company is now directed by Loris Anthony Beckles, a former member of the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble and a longtime associate of Mr. George. Beckles Dancing Company has performed at various venues to diverse Texas Audiences. Such as the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Museum of Art, Moody Performance Hall for the Dance Council of North Texas and Carpenter Arts Center in Irving. BDC has been the guests of Momentum Dance Company, the Houston Black Dance Festival and Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth

BDC is the current Community Partner in dance with the South Dallas Community Center and provides performances in the SDCC and works with other partners in the cultural center. BDC has served as hosts for the past 3 years of the Sweat Dallas Dance Festival (previously the South Dallas Dance Festival). This 2-day festival brings together dance companies, groups and solo artists in the Dallas communities and its surrounding areas The SDDF funds the Sweatt Dallas Dance Festival Scholarship through the Dance Council of North Texas, which is awarded to a student of color to provide financial support for their summer dance training and studies.  

Beckles Dancing Company is a component of ARGA NOVA DANCE, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. BDC is a resident company at South Dallas Cultural Center.  ARGA NOVA DANCE is supported in part by: South Dallas Cultural Center, City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, Sammons Center for the Arts, Moody Fund for the Arts, State Fair of Texas, Star System donors to ARGA NOVA DANCE, Texas Commission on the Arts.
