SPARK! Music Pop-Ups


SPARK!

SPARK! is open to the public each weekend in September! Our total creative immersion environment expands minds with exciting learning areas and bodies with our renowned Climb, Crawl, Slide Sculpture. The month of September includes free music pop up activities courtesy of our generous sponsor, The Moody Fund for the Arts. 

Drum Circles

Saturday, Aug. 31, 1pm-3pm
Sunday, Sep. 1, 1pm-3pm
Monday, Sep. 2 (Labor Day), 1pm-3pm

Drum Circles with guest artist Drum Master "Sir Rock" from ArtsVision Performing and Visual Arts. "Sir Rock" has played with the original George Clinton of ”Parliament Funkadelic”, Buddy Miles of ”Bank of Gypsies”, and Dennis Edwards of ”The Temptations”.  He was the last percussionist for Marvin Gaye and has played for John Legend.  Rock has taught drumming to students of all ages in after school and summer enrichment programs. 

The Que Pastas
Saturday, Sep. 7, 3pm - 5pm
Sunday, Sep. 8, 1pm - 3pm

The Que Pastas are a kindie (kid+indie=kindie) band based out of Austin. According to the Denver Post Reverb, “The Que Pastas are playing "cleverly written, melodically driven songs...(that) isn't just good kids' music, but good pop music for people of all ages.”

Hairspray Jr. Dance Workshop
Saturday & Sunday , Sep. 14-15, 1pm-3pm

ArtsVision Performing and Visual Arts is a youth arts organization whose mission is to provide innovative, creative enrichment programs that focuses on the arts for Dallas area youth. On Saturday and Sunday, September 14th and 15th come join ArtsVision for a “dance audition” workshop based on the popular music from Hairspray, Jr. This activity is perfect for students in grades 3rd and up!

Cara Mía Theatre Company
Saturday & Sunday, Sep. 21-22, 1pm

Cara Mia Theatre Company will perform Flores Y Calaveras (A Play Celebrating Mexico's Day of the Dead). This play tells the story of a Mexican-American girl and her deceased uncle who teaches her the beauty of the Mexican Day of the Dead tradition. Inspired by the engravings of Jose Guadalupe Posada, this performance utilizes masks, music, movement, physical comedy, and projections of visual art. Perfect for all ages!

Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts
Saturday & Sunday, Sep. 28-29, 1pm

Students from Booker T. Washington High School students and faculty will present a variety showcase featuring dance, music, theatre, and various disciplines within the visual arts.
