Imagine a fusion of Central and South American, rhythms, 16th century European polyphony, and Cuban and African influences. This is the music of our exciting opening concert: motets and villancicos from Bolivia, Peru, and Mexico from the 16th & 17th centuries. This concert will feature Orpheus Chamber Singers, fabulous soloists, original choreography from the Herrera Dance Project, and virtuoso instrumentalists from across the country all in the grand space of Cathedral Guadalupe. Our period instrument orchestra will include cornetti (a cross between a trumpet and oboe), sackbuts, numerous percussion instruments, theorbo, baroque guitar, strings, and organ continuo. Thrilling, grand, humorous, intimate, once-in-a-life-time: this is a perfect way to start our 25th anniversary season.
