Chautauqua Celebrates the "POWER OF SPORTS"


Waxahachie Chautauqua

Celebrate the “POWER OF SPORTS” at the annual free Waxahachie Chautauqua on Saturday, Sept. 28, 9am-5pm.

WHAT: Day of cultural and education programs around the theme of sports begins with a Special Olympics Opening Panel, including Director Texas Special Olympics Tim Martin, and ends at 4 pm with a wrap-up by award-winning sports anchor Dale Hansen of WFAA. 

WHERE:  Historic 1902 open-air octagonal Chautauqua Auditorium and in tents in the surrounding Getzendaner Park, Waxahachie, Texas.  Just 30 miles south of downtown Dallas!

2019 THEME:  "POWER OF SPORTS", which will look at SPORTS through the perspectives of Special Olympics & UNIFIED SPORTS®, History, Ethics, Science, Art, Music and Demonstrations of Falconry, Bocce, and both Victorian and current Olympic Fencing in costume and so much more! www.waxahachiechautauqua.org/2019-speakers-performers/

 What IS the annual Waxahachie Chautauqua?   A free day-long event of cultural and educational speakers, performances, demonstrations, music, and exhibits which dig deep on a different topic each year, on the last Saturday of September.  In 2019 it’s Sports!  This event is reminiscent of the historic Chautauqua annual assemblies held in the historic Waxahachie Chautauqua Auditorium 1900-1930.www.WaxahachieChautauqua.org/

 9 amOpening Ceremonies kick off the day with Music and Welcome and Surprises! 

10 am – Special Power of Unified Sports®   Discover the future of Special Olympics' in its "Inclusion Revolution" Unified Sports® movement.  Panel will include a “Unified Pair” – a Special Olympics Athlete and their Partner

11 am - 4 pm - Inspiring and intriguing programs, concerts, exhibits, and demonstrations through History, Ethics, Science, Art, Future, Music and Demonstrations of Falconry, Bocce, and both Victorian and current Olympic Fencing in costume and so much

4 pm -5 pm - Wrap-up by award-winning sports anchor Dale Hansen of WFAA
