Rhythm as a principle of design in visual art involves pattern, repetition and movement – much like rhythm in music. Understanding this important organizing element as well as balance, proportion and harmony will guide campers as they construct three dimensional collages, building up layers of shapes and colors using wood and cardboard.

Whether set in the Stone Age, the present day or beyond, campers will develop their own cartoon characters and create a comic book with several adventure stories (in the time periods of their choosing!).

From painting intricate radial designs on rocks to constructing cool kinetic sculptures with stones and wires, campers will explore fun and imaginative 2D and 3D art forms with one of the oldest substances & sources of technology used by humankind.

A study of geological strata provides scientific and artistic inspiration for a re-imagined landscape that explores the cool textures and patterns of the earth’s interior.
Instructors: Kiba Jacobson
(Theatre Arts/Costume Design)
Students will create characters and construct costumes out of recycled materials inspired by the art, culture, fashion and history of rock and roll through the decades. This class will conclude with a fashion show. Students may bring recycled items from home to use in their creations.
