Jazz at the USA Film Festival: "Bolden"

Angelika Film Center - Mockingbird Station

Directed by Dan Pritzker, Bolden imagines the compelling, powerful, and tragic journey of Buddy Bolden (Gary Carr), the unsung inventor of jazz -- about whom little is known. Scant biographical information is to be found and no known recordings of his music exist. The film instead is told through Buddy’s fragmented memories set against the social turbulence in New Orleans in the early 1900s, from which his revolutionary music rose and forever changed the face of popular music. Bolden features an original score written, arranged, and performed by Wynton Marsalis, and also stars Erik LaRay Harvey, Yaya DaCosta, Ian McShane, and Michael Rooker.

After the film screening there will be a Q&A with producer Jon Cornick moderated by Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones.
