AKIRASH: Ojuse - Duty

Ro2 Art in The Cedars

Ro2 Art is proud to present Ojuse - Duty, a solo exhibition featuring new works by artist Olaniyi R. Akindiya (AKIRASH). The show will run from April 13 through May 11, 2019. The exhibition will open with an Artist Reception at Ro2 Art’s Downtown Pop-up located at 1508 Commerce St., Dallas, TX from 7- 10 p.m.

AKIRASH’s weaved photographs demonstrate the composite nature and fragility of memories. The photos contrast both monochromatic and colored perspectives. From frayed threads and captivating colors, to the meditative mix of animation and gray scale, the memories captured reveal their subjectivity and elasticity. The artists work collectively reflects on rural versus urban life in an intricate and visceral collage of recognizable figures incorporating multiple narratives. Through his work AKIRASH brings to light the ephemeral nature of memories.

Artist Statement

My work focuses on moments of time; fleeting moments that can be easily forgotten or transformed. Reflecting on rural versus urban life, the accelerated pace of development and social infrastructure, my photographic work and performance activities play around social subjectivities with dramatic components to break down conventional barriers.
