Moudy Gallery
March 4 – 21, 2019
The Art Galleries at TCU is pleased to announce Separate Voices, Shared Visions, featuring artists Maria de Los Angeles, Renee Magnanti, Bill Pangburn, Mary Ting, and Lobsang Tsewang. This exhibition runs March 4-21 at Moudy Gallery.
Separate Voices, Shared Visions presents five artists who address sociopolitical issues through printmaking. While each confront different social problems that have personal relevance, their work is united under a concern for human rights. They also share an interest in the expressive qualities of the woodcut printing which features throughout the exhibition.
· While living the precarious existence of a Dreamer, Maria de Los Angeles makes work focusing on issues of immigration and existential anxiety.
· Renee Magnanti investigates women’s’ position in contemporary society and draws attention to unrecognized roles and anonymous or forgotten cultural producers.
· Water as a precious resource and an instrument of geological time form the central motifs of Bill Pangburn’s work which explores time, space and environmental concerns.
· Mary Ting’s work reflects on stories - - our devotions and desperations - - that concentrate on endangered species and their rapid extinction.
· Tibetan artist Lobsang Tsewang creates from a position of personal and religious conviction, and a resistance to political oppression. His work expresses the iconography of the religion on his homeland
Separate Voices, Shared Visions will open with a reception for the artists at Moudy Gallery on Thursday, March 7, 5-7 p.m. Audiences are invited to join the exhibition’s curator, Bill Pangburn, at the free opening reception where he is available to discuss the exhibition and answer questions regarding the work of the artists.
This exhibition is programmed as part of Texchange, the 2019 SGC International Conference, Dallas, March 6 - 9. SGC International is an educational non-profit organization committed to informing their membership about issues and processes concerning original prints, drawings, book arts, and handmade paper. www.sgcinternational.org
