Uncommon Valor: U.S. Soldiers of Iwo Jima

Environmental Education Center - City of Plano

Please join the Carpatho-Rusyn Society: Dallas Chapter as we honor United States soldiers of "The Greatest Generation" who served on Iwo Jima in WWII.  The program will be in two parts. Part 1 will commemorate the life and sacrifice of Sergeant Michael Strank, of Carpatho-Rusyn descent. Sgt.Strank was one of six men immortalized in the flag-raising photo on Mt. Suribachi. Sadly, he was killed in action shortly after the famous photo was taken. We will show a short documentary film, "Our Flag Still Waves", which is a personal story of Sgt. Strank's life as told by family members, neighbors, and veterans.
Part 2 of the program will feature local WWII Iwo Jima veteran, Marine Corporal Don Graves. Don will present his first-hand account of the harrowing experience on Iwo Jima that will have audience members riveted to their seats as they see battle through his eyes.
Don't miss this exciting program!

Space is limited. Although Admission is free, please register on the Eventbrite link provided to ensure a seat.
