familiar africanness

In her latest body of work, local artist Lauren Cross is grappling with questions--materials and narratives that continue to inform her both consciously and subconsciously. As a means of reclaiming her Africanness, the artist constructs assembled works on brown paper bags and found surfaces, incorporating projections and installations. In this process, Cross pieces together her experiences of diasporian identity both lost and found, challenging notions of authenticity.

The exhibition runs Nov 19 - Dec 14, 2018, with a reception 7-9pm, Friday, December 7th. Cliff Gallery of Mountain View College is open 10am - 4pm M-F or by appointment. Contact Gallery Director Alison Starr @ 214-860-3649 or [email protected]
