Swiss Avenue Lantern Walk

Aldredge House

Turning Back the Holiday Clock on Swiss Avenue

Lantern Walk will feature early day seasonal traditions

The Friends of Aldredge House will hold its' second annual Lantern Walk on December 2, a guided tour of Swiss Avenue homes that will highlight the historic neighborhood's holiday traditions in the early 20th century.

Costumed docents will take guests to four separate homes, including the Aldredge House, where they will be treated to drinks and hors-d'oeuvres and hear fascinating stories about the holiday season on Swiss Avenue in the early 1900s. Holiday carols also will be performed by the Woodrow Wilson Variations Choir.

Town criers leading the Lantern Walk tours will recall both Christian and Jewish celebrations that took place in the years preceding the outbreak of World War I. The tours will continue from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and there will be valet parking at the Aldredge House, 5500 Swiss Avenue, as well as trolleys to transport visitors.

Tickets are $60 for Friends of Aldredge House members and $75 for non-members. They can be purchased online with Paypal at friendsofaldredgehouse.org. or at Talulah & Hess, 5810 Live Oak. Tickets also can be purchased for cash only at Aldredge House on the day of the tours.

Friends of Aldredge House, a non-profit organization, was established to provide long-term financial security and support for one of Dallas' most architecturally significant homes. It is the goal of the organization to preserve the Aldredge House as a museum home and public meeting space for educational outreach on preservation.
