2019 Denton Black Film Festival

Join us the Denton Black Film Festival January 23-27, 2019 for great film, live music, comedy, spoken word, art exhibitions and more in Denton, Texas. Festival screenings and events take place throughout the city. Among the highlights:

  • The 1959 classic Imitation of Life will be the opening film; additionally, we'll unveil a never-seen-before interview with actress Juanita Moore, who was nominated for Academy Award for her role in the film 
  • 60+ film screenings, including works that cover social justice issues like human trafficking and bias, hilarious comedies, pieces by female filmmakers and more
  • Grammy Award-winning jazz artist Kirk Whalum, with the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band, will close out the festival
  • Two comedy shows featuring Piper the Comedian and Hot Topic
  • A Spoken Word Open Mic/Poetry Slam Contest on Friday night
  • Two art exhibitions
  • All filmmaker panels/workshops are free, including our annual Creatives Resource Expo and our Women, Wine and Wisdom Panel
