Toranj, an exhibition of works on paper by Nida Bangash, engages and challenges the tradition of the Persian miniature painting. Toranj translates as bergamot tree and is the title of a poem by Khwaju Kermani and Hafez, 14th century Persian poets and mystics.
Bangash, born in Iran and brought up in Pakistan, now lives in the Dallas area and is an MFA candidate at Southern Methodist University. She is a recipient of a 2018 Nasher micro grant and 2018 CADD Art Fund Prize nominee. Her works use the language of pattern to weave together the complexities of her cross-cultural experiences
The exhibition opens on Saturday, November 17 with a reception for the artist from 6 to 8 pm and continues through December 15.
