Orchestra of New Spain Presents Christmas at Christ the King

Christ the King Catholic Church

The Orchestra of New Spain will perform its annual Baroque Christmas concert at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Rd 214-365-1200, on December 9 at 6 p.m.

Admission is complimentary; donations are appreciated.

This unique Christmas production incorporates the Orchestra of New Spain’s vast research into the undiscovered music of Spain and the New World Hispanic societies. The extricated discoveries of joyful Villancicos — Christmas Carols — that emanated from Cathedrals and village churches throughout Hispanic America will undoubtedly regale all in attendance.  The Mexico City Cathedral and Churches in Puebla, Durango and Bolivia's Chiquitania region are particularly notable and popular. Recently rediscovered Gloria by Handel, Christmas cantatas of Francisco Courcelle and the Villancicos of Padre Antonio Soler will pay homage to Baroque European repertory. The music of the season will be performed by Orchestra of New Spain’s soloists and chorus.
