Sacred Transmitted: A Century of Design from the Emil Frei Studio Archives

Sacred Transmitted is a unique exhibition featuring stained glass window designs from the archives of the Emil Frei & Associates, an award winning liturgical stained-glass design and fabrication studio, in St. Louis MO. Established in 1898, they have made over a thousand church windows across the United States and are one of the most recognized stained-glass production studios of the Midwest United States.

The studio is best known for trail blazing the modern stained-glass movement, in a variety of styles, and has received acclaim on a national level, including in Time Magazine. Emil Frei & Associates is highly regarded in fields of Architecture, Liturgical Design, and Art for religious spaces and have made windows for Baptist, Episcopal, Catholic, Lutheran Methodist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches. While their windows can be seen around the country, their designs have never left the archives for public viewing until now. Featuring over 80 watercolor and ink designs displayed, this exhibition showcases the true scope of of The Emil Frei & Associates artistic production over a century on.

Please join us for the opening reception of Sacred Transmitted: A Century of Design from the Emil Frei Studio Archives on Friday, November 9, 6:30 – 9 p.m. All are welcome to learn more about the exhibition in a panel discussion|, held prior to the exhibition reception, from 5:30 p.m. – 6:20 p.m., in the Catholic Foundations Room, level 2, Cardinal Farrell Hall.

The panel discussion speakers are artist and monk  Br. Martin Erspamer, OSB, exhibition curator and artist William Frank, Aaron Frei President of Emil Frei Inc., and Fr. Thomas Esposito,O. Cist. assistant professor of Theology at the University of Dallas.
