What Makes a Citizen?

Moody Performance Hall

Weaving together Constitutional law, live DJ music scoring, theater, and spoken word poetry. We will explore, in ways that will inspire, illuminate, and entertain, the crucial role of the citizen in a healthy democracy.

The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, in collaboration with producers Sharon Lyle of design studio Ensemble and Clyde Valentín of SMU Meadows’ Ignite/Arts Dallas, present an evening of music, performance, moving images and thought-provoking lecture content to answer the question, what makes a citizen? The program, under the direction and sponsorship of Institute Fellow Dr. Nancy Cain Marcus, will feature prominent artists and scholars, including Jeffrey Rosen, author, constitutional scholar and president and CEO of the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia; Will Power, award-winning playwright, director, producer and former artist-in-residence at SMU Meadows; DJ Reborn, internationally known DJ and performer; theatre artists and SMU alumni Janielle Kastner and Brigham Mosley; and Cry Havoc Theatre, the critically acclaimed Dallas-based youth theatre. Together they will explore the crucial role of the citizen in a healthy democracy.
