Forging is the process of shaping metal with the force of a hammer. In this workshop, students will use pliers, chasing hammers, files, and steel blocks to forge copper and sterling silver wire into a variety of jewelry. Materials included are black leather cord for necklaces, a selection of different gauges of copper wire, and 2 ft of sterling silver wire per student. Once desired shape is forged, students will learn how to finish metal surfaces with Liver of Sulfur patination, polish with brass brushes, and types of sealants. Each student will leave the workshop with their choice of jewelry: earrings, bracelet, or necklace.
