Jon Dahlander and Rachel LaFond Solo Piano Concert

Good Shepherd Episcopal Church - Dallas

Treat yourself to a moving evening of solo piano music from two composers who will take you on a journey with the piano as their vehicle. This is a benefit concert, free to attend, with proceeds from collected donations going to the North Texas Food Bank. A dessert reception will follow the concert.

Dallas-based Jon Dahlander’s original piano solos have been described as “astonishingly graceful” that “soothe and enchant for the sheer and seemingly effortless joy of it.” His latest release, “Songs for Smiler McGee” comes after a 17-year hiatus from recording. It is inspired by his family’s journey with a medically fragile child who loved nothing more than to listen to his father play the piano. Musically, Jon draws upon influences that include 60s and 70s pop, rock, jazz, classical, church hymns and hints of gypsy folk. Largely self-taught, Jon didn’t start playing piano until high school and didn’t own a piano until he was nearly 30. His songs have now been played on Pandora, the Internet Genome project, more than 115 million times over the last 10 years. “Smiler McGee” is his 4th CD, and is, according to R.J. Lannan of the Sounding Board “14 tracks of solo piano—some sad, some happy, but every track overflowing with emotion. Jon’s music is thoughtful in every sense of the word.” Jon's music can be found at http://www.jondahlander.com

Rachel LaFond is a composer who tells epic tales about life’s mysteries and its most powerful moments through music. Her fine-tuned technique, natural instinct for songwriting, and deep belief in the piano as an ideal tool for authentic expression shine through during her compelling performances. Originally from Seattle, Rachel has traveled the world and now lives in New Zealand. She draws inspiration from her travels, the natural world, and the vibrant stories of others. Rachel will be performing music from her second album, Encounters of the Beautiful Kind (released June 1st), as well as music from her debut album, Wandering Soul. Rachel’s music can be found at www.rachellafond.com.

Notes:
The suggested donation for adults is $20, or whatever amount you feel comfortable with. Proceeds after expenses will go to the North Texas Food Bank.

There will be two halves with an intermission. For everyone's enjoyment, please plan to silence cell phones, remain seated, and pause conversation during the performance.

Concerts can be delightful events for the whole family. However, given the intimacy of the event, we do ask parents to consider whether their kids will be able to sit quietly during the performance to determine if this event is right for them.

There will be a chance to say hello to Rachel and Jon during intermission and after the show. CDs and sheet music will also be available for sale, with these purchases supporting the artists.

A dessert reception will follow the concert.
