Saturday, July 21, 3-6pm
Location: 817 W. Davis Street #110
Instructor: Kristen Cochran
# of Students: 4-10
This class will introduce participants to a variety of water-based media including watercolor, ink, dye and gouache. We will discuss the distinct characteristics of each medium (how they are similar and different), practicing traditional techniques and more experimental, chance-based processes. Soaking, staining, masking, layering, folding, scoring and sanding are a few of the ways that we will manipulate paper, altering its surface to produce unexpected color relationships, luscious textures and ambiguous spatial effects. This workshop requires a willingness to experiment and play!
Art historical references to post-war, soak-stain painting and to contemporary craft practices will
be made as a way to contextualize our efforts.
