Late Canada Day at the Texas Triffid Ranch

Texas Triffid Ranch

Canada Day is July 1, and the Texas Triffid Ranch, Dallas’s pretty much only carnivorous plant gallery, plans to celebrate the life of Michel Sarrazin, generally considered to be the first naturalist documenting plant and animal life in what is now Canada. In addition to the carnivorous plant enclosures for which the Triffid Ranch won a 2017 Dallas Observer Best of Dallas Award, this gallery show offers closeup views of Sarrazin’s namesake, North American pitcher plants of the genus Sarracenia, in addition to other carnivorous plants from across the planet. Even if you aren’t already familiar with the flower emblem of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador (the purple pitcher plant Sarracenia purpurea, much beloved by Queen Victoria), now is the time to make an acquaintance.
