Ladies Jazz Night

Sammons Center for the Arts

The talented and inspirational saxophonist Rachella Parks-Washington blows into Sammons Jazz with her trademark uplifting jazz sounds. Since 2001, when she was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, Rachella has concentrated on the power of music as a healing element. Joining her onstage for the first set are Nate Young on piano, Leonard Hayward on violin, Chris DeRose on guitar, Jared Durham on bass, Vol Thompson on drums, and Mark Whitsett on percussion.

Two outstanding vocalists, Andrea Wallace and Simone Jackson, soar into the second set as they pay tribute to the memorable collaboration of Carmen McRae and Betty Carter. They are backed by fellow alums of Dallas’ famed Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts: Fredrick Sanders on piano, Braylon Lacy on bass, and Andrew Griffith on drums.

Sammons Jazz is held at the Sammons Center for the Arts, 3630 Harry Hines at Oak Lawn. Tickets are $45 per person and include beverages, a light meal, and valet parking. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the concert begins approximately at 7:30 p.m. There are two performance sets of about 40 minutes each with an intermission between. Dress is casual.

Tickets go on sale to the public on Monday, August 13, 2018. To order, call the Sammons Center at (214) 520-7788 or buy online at www.sammonsartcenter.org. For more information, call (214) 520-7788, email [email protected], or visit www.sammonsjazz.com. All artists and programs subject to change.
