CineWilde: Milk

Texas Theatre

For Pride month, on Friday, Friday, June 22, 2018, CinéWilde at the Texas Theatre — the nation's only monthly LGBTQ film series — will show gay director Gus Van Sant's Academy Award-winning 2008 biopic "Milk."

Starring Sean Penn in the titular role alongside other gay and LGBTQ-allied actors (like Josh Brolin, Diego Luna, Victor Garber, Denis O'Hare and James Franco), "Milk" follows the rise and demise of Harvey Milk, a gay rights pioneer who was the first openly gay elected official in the history of California.

Milk's story continues to inspire a new generation of LGBTQ citizens around the world. It also inspired the Academy Award to give the film 8 nominations — Sean Penn won for Best Actor and openly gay screenwriter Dustin Lance Black won for Best Original Screenplay.

Before the film, our pre-show discussion will tackle local gay politics and fundraising for gay Texan candidates. After the film, we invite you to stick around for Milk-themed cocktails and more fun at the bar.
