Ro2 Art is proud to present She Came from Outer Space, a solo exhibition featuring new works by artist Cathey Miller. The show will run from June 7 through July 17, 2018. There will be an opening reception held Thursday, June 7, from 6-8pm at Ro2 Art at the Magnolia Theatre’s second-floor bar, located at 3699 McKinney Ave, Dallas TX 75204.
Cathey Miller’s colorful, figurative paintings explore the mythical planet of Cathedonia. Fierce heroines, whom Miller considers her close friends or alter egos, are often seen battling monsters, drinking big gulps, and flying around in spaceships, all while staying true to their Cathedonian ideals. She Came from Outer Space is an intergalactic exhibition depicting a wondrous parallel universe full of imagination, truth, heroism, and girl power.
Cathey Miller was born in Los Altos, California but grew up in Dallas, Texas. She returned to California to attend Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where she received a BFA in Illustration. After graduating in 1985, Miller spent two years working as a freelance editorial illustrator in New York City. Cathey Miller has been a professional painter for over 30 years and has worked in set painting for television and for theater, including a very long stint at Barney and Friends (aka Happy Godzilla!). She currently resides in Dallas, Texas where she remains active in the art world.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I enjoy painting pictures of women in outer space. Some are fictional characters from movies and TV shows; some are real spaceship captains, astronauts, and aliens. There are ten movie posters featuring sci-fi actresses you may or may not know…also included are several large paintings from the Stranger Worlds series that feature Trinity from The Matrix and Lt. Uhura from the original Star Trek. Common features include lady badassery, defiant eye contact, snug-fitting anti-gravity outfits, and cadmium red. Occasionally, glitter or fluorescent paint has been required because... THE FUTURE!
