Many people dream of starting a business one day, which explains why an MBA is the highest pursued Master’s degrees amongst men and women in this country (According to CBS News). But there are some people that take starting a business one step further to create a business model that not only turns a profit but helps our world’s most vulnerable people in the process. We’ve heard and witnessed the successful entrepreneurship stories of TOMS founder, Blake Mycoskie or Nobel prize winner & Grameen Bank founder, Muhammad Yunus. These business leaders are a part of a growing network of social entrepreneurs who are using business to solve social issues.

Locally, Paula Minnis is making her mark as the founder of GAIA—a fashion company that employs refugee women who have been resettled in Dallas to make the brand’s textile-based accessories like purses, pouches, pillows, tassels, & home decor. Personally, I love the pom pom bags and text pouches -- Mother's Day gift idea, anyone?! Fangirl aside, these products are not only beautiful but making a difference in the lives of the 10 refugee artisan employees from war-torn countries of Syria, Afghanistan & Iraq by providing them with dignified employment.

Join us on May 30th at the new GAIA offices to learn more about this stylish brand and meet the women transforming Dallas one pouch at a time. Tickets to attend are $15 for Meridian: Global YPs and Latino Center for Leadership Development members.

This event may just inspire you to start your own business for good!
