Wylie will be wide awake June 30 as the sixth annual Bluegrass on Ballard, co-presented by the City of Wylie, Bluegrass Heritage Foundation, and Wylie Downtown Merchants Association, comes to town. The free event begins at 10 a.m. with over 100 booths featuring art, crafts, unique items and other vendors in Olde City Park, sponsored by the City of Wylie Public Arts Board, and pony rides, sponsored by the North Texas Equestrian Society. The 200-vehicle car show goes from 4 to 9 p.m., with prizes awarded in several categories, and the American Legion's Chili Cook-Off starts at 2. World-class bluegrass bands start performing at 2 p.m. Scheduled to perform are Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band, The Po' Ramblin' Boys, Texas & Tennessee, Pine Island Station, Salt Creek, and The Herrins. Musicians of all skill levels are invited to bring their instruments and jam in the park, on the street, or in Ballard Avenue's many restaurants and shops. Food vendors will also be on hand, and downtown restaurants and shops will be open as well.
