American's HeARTland: The Prairie States Teen Scene Camp
Schedule: July 23 – 27, 2018 (M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

Cost: $210 ($105 half-day)
Overview: Draw inspiration from photographers from America’s heartland and create art inspired by the murals and architecture of Route 66, from the classic kitsch of roadside motels to the grandeur of the St. Louis Gateway Arch.
Daily Schedule
Class 1: (8 a.m. – 10 a.m.) USA and Route 66 Mural – Instructor: VET
Class 2: (10 a.m. – 12 noon) Fundamentals of Photography – Instructor: Sheila Cunningham
Class 3: (1 – 3 p.m.) The Great Plains to the Great Arch: Architecture of Route 66 – Instructor: Robert Batson
Class 4 (3 -5 p.m.) Fuji Images and Emulsion Transfers (alternative printing and photo-based artworks) – Instructor: Sheila C.
Class #1 (8 a.m. – 10 a.m.): USA and Route 66 Murals

Class #2 (10 a.m. – 12 noon): Fundamentals of Photography
Draw inspiration from photographers from the heartland as we learn how they documented cities, landscapes, architecture and people. Students will incorporate these photographic and compositional techniques to bring to life their own adventures.

Class #3 (1 – 3 p.m.): The Great Plains to the Great Arch: Architecture of Route 66
From the vernacular to the spectacular! From the classic kitsch of roadside motels to the grandeur of the St. Louis Gateway Arch, campers will look at architecture along Route 66 and create a sculpture inspired by their favorite building(s).

Class #4 (3 – 5 p.m.): Fuji Transfer Collages
We will look at artists who were influenced by their travels and created collages and other photo-based artwork. Inspired by these artists, students will create their own stories, or interpretations, using their photos and small 3D items. Basic transfer techniques with film and hand coloring options will be covered.
