Class #2 (10 a.m. – 12 noon): On the Road Again: Telling Tall Texas Tales
In these two-hour storytelling/creative writing sessions, activities will emphasize cowboy culture, the natural environment and folk art landmarks.  Teens will ‘travel’ through Texas on Route 66 to unique spots such as the almost-100-year old Midpoint Café in Adrian, Texas that became the inspiration for Disney Pixar’s film Cars.  Students will use figurative language to create vivid descriptions and share daily the highlights of their imaginary journey.
Instructor: Dianne Tucker

Class #3 (1 – 3 p.m.): Adobe Walls to Barbed Wire Fences: Landscape Painting & Drawing
Campers will compose and complete a drawing, collage or painting of a landscape. An historical survey of landscape painting with a focus on American Southwest artists (including Georgia O’Keeffe, Gustav Bauman, The Taos School, Peter Hurd and some contemporary artists) along with a scenic “road trip” using photos and video clips –from the New Mexico mountains and mesas through the West Texas plains of the Llano Estacado – will provide the context and inspiration.
Instructor: Robert Batson

Class #4 (3 – 5 p.m.): Modernist Masters Meet Vintage Americana: Wall Relief Sculpture Inspired by Route 66 Signs
After studying the abstract sculpture of contemporary artist, Frank Stella and the iconic road signs of Route 66, campers will design and create an emblematic self-portrait in the form of a wall relief sculpture.
