The Show Me State Multi-Arts Camp

Schedule: July 23 –  27, 2018 (M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Ages: 6 – 12
Cost: $210

Overview:  “From BoatHenge” and other lawn art creations to small town murals and city scenes, the Show Me State will have you dancing a jazz-inspired number.  Campers can don wearable sculptures called “Soundsuits” and will produce art to match these wonders using a variety of materials including special puffy paint, perfect for recreating a Route 66 roadside diner neon sign!

BoatHenge & Other Lawn Art Wonders
(Visual Arts/Mixed Media/Sculpture)
A look at BoatHenge, a Stonehenge inspired sculpture made out of boats in Easley, Missouri, is the launching point for campers to create an original landmark of their own with paper, paint and recycled materials.

Roadside Neon Diner Signs
(Visual Arts/Drawing & Painting/Mixed Media/Graphic Design)
Campers will create signs advertising a restaurant along Route 66. Neon puffy paint will re-create the effect of classic neon signs at night.

City Scenes & Small Town Murals

The towns of Chillicothe and Cuba in Missouri are famous for their murals on downtown buildings. Campers will create their own paintings based on local history and architecture.

Wearable Sculpture
(Visual Arts/Sculpture/Mixed Media/Fiber Arts)
Nick Cave, who was born in Fulton, Missouri and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, is a designer /performer who sculpts with fabric and various other materials to create his wearable sculptures called “Soundsuits.”  Campers will make their own version of a Soundsuit, building upon a mask form to create a wild and whimsical mixed media headpiece.

Intro to Dance – Jazz Inspired!
(Dance/Movement/Cultural Studies)
This introductory class will include jazz-inspired dance along with the basics such as warm-ups, progressions and combinations. Comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes are recommended. No sandals or flip-flops, please.
