Route 66 Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives
(Visual Arts/Mixed Media/Graphic Design)
Campers will create their own Route 66 road map with logos, images and signs to represent states, historical sites, landmarks, attractions and more.
Instructor: Cynthia Anzaldua

Land Whales of Catoosa
(Visual Arts/Mixed Media/Sculpture)
The Blue Whale of Catoosa is a waterfront structure just east of the town of Catoosa, Oklahoma and has become one of the most recognizable – and quirkiest – attractions on old Route 66. With the medium of papier mâché, our young artists will create their own memorable land whale sculptures.
Instructor: Sarah Schacht

Dream Machines/Automobile Design
Visual Arts/Drawing & Painting/Design)
The history of transportation and the history of Route 66 go hand in hand. Students will learn about automobiles of the past that travelled down America’s highway. They will then brainstorm what their “dream machine” would look like – perhaps inspired by some of the classic car designs of the 1950s and 60s. Final versions will be rendered on watercolor paper, complete with a depiction of the road and the passing landscape.
Instructor: Kiba Jacobson

Printmaking & the Southwest
(Visual Arts/Printmaking)
The Southwest aesthetic and influence of Native American designs will be the inspiration for campers to create an image for their hand made prints. After carving their original design on a printing plate, it will be imprinted using traditional printmaking tools and colored inks onto paper as well as used to create a custom designed T-shirt.
Instructor: Kim Black

Road Trip: Oklahoma is OK with Us
(Creative Writing/Storytelling)
Campers will take an imaginary journey along Route 66 in Oklahoma. Daily activities will include storytelling, crafts and journaling that highlight Native American art and culture, oil and gas industries and imaginary visits to folk art landmarks. Stops such as Pops Soda Ranch in Arcadia, the Blue Whale of Catoosa, or the Giant Milk Bottle will be used to inspire students to create their own folk art landmarks and share their stories.
Instructor: Dianne Tucker
