Leni Zumas’s novel Red Clocks (Little Brown, 2018) was a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, an Indie Next Pick, and a Publishers Weekly Top 10 Fiction selection. She is also the author of the story collection Farewell Navigator (Open City, 2008) and the novel The Listeners (Tin House, 2012), which was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award.
Her fiction and essays have appeared in The Cut, The Collagist, The Elephants, Lenny Letter, Tin House, and elsewhere. She has received grants and fellowships from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, the Regional Arts & Culture Council, and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Leni lives in Portland, Oregon, where she teaches in the MFA program at Portland State University.
Red Clocks imagines an America where abortion is once again illegal, in vitro fertilization is banned, and the Personhood Amendment grants rights of life, liberty, and property to every embryo. In a small Oregon fishing town, five very different women navigate these new barriers alongside age-old questions surrounding motherhood, friendship, identity, ambition, and freedom.
