A retrospective of seven of the signature works of renowned jazz choreographer Danny Buraczeski, who is retiring from the Meadows dance faculty after 13 years of extraordinary teaching. He was recently recognized as the Meadows Foundation Distinguished Teaching Professor of the Year. Buraczeski’s choreography has traced a clear and deep investigation of jazz – its sources and ongoing evolution – with keen attention paid to the rich lineage of individual performers and movement makers. It has been presented at major venues both nationally and internationally and has been commissioned by highly respected organizations such as the Walker Art Center and the Library of Congress. He has received multiple fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts as well as fellowships from the Bush Foundation and McKnight Foundation, and he was named Artist of the Year by the Minneapolis Star Tribune in 2000. The concert will feature current students; alumni Albert Drake and Adrián Aguirre; and the Zenon Dance Company from Minneapolis, which performed Buraczeski’s critically acclaimed Ezekiel’s Wheel in 2016 in Cuba.
