The Meadows Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Jon D. Lee, presents its spring concert of new and classic works for percussion that run the gamut from light and fun to dark and intense. The program opens with the tour-de-force marimba piece Splendid Wood by Pulitzer- and Grammy-winning composer Jennifer Higdon, followed by John Cage’s challenging masterwork Third Construction. Next isSoliloquy and Rondo by Eric Ewazen, an arrangement of a larger work originally written for the Meadows Wind Ensemble and percussion group Nexus.  An intense percussion quartet composed by Meadows student Eden Porter, the rich have names…, follows. The second half of the program includes Daniel McCarthy’s Hammerstrength for 10 musicians; Steve Reich’s marimba duet Nagoya Marimbas; the Harry Breuer rag Back Talk, featuring Meadows senior Matt Shaw; and Bulgarian Shaka, a rousing work arranged by Meadows World Music Ensemble Director Jamal Mohamed.
