Silent Music: Music of the Holocaust

Southern Methodist University - Caruth Auditorium in Owen Arts Center

Voices of Change presents Silent Music: Music of the Holocaust, April 29 at Caruth Auditorium. The program features three composers who died in the Holocaust, including two works that were composed in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. The program also includes pieces by Israeli composer Boris Pigovat and SMU Professor Emeritus of Composition, Simon Sargon.
With this timely performance Voices of Change hopes to provide historical perspective and honor the invincibility of the human spirit at a time when bigotry and enmity threaten to create deep and dangerous divisions in our society. We are honored to have Dr. Charlotte DeCoster, Assistant Director of Education of the Dallas Holocaust Museum, to facilitate the pre-concert forum. The evening's program: Boris Pigovat: Silent Music (viola, harp)Pavel Haas: 4 Songs on Chinese Poetry (baritone, piano)Gideon Klein: String Trio (violin, viola, cello)Erwin Schulhoff: Flute Sonata (piano, flute)Simon Sargon: Shema (piano, flute; a 1988 Voices of Change commission )
