Since the time of slavery, faith and social justice have been woven into the fabric of Black churches in America. As a result, they have fostered a strong sense of community and provided spiritual and political leadership, especially during the civil rights movement. Visit the 7th floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library to see an exhibit showing the influence the Black Church has had on the history of Dallas. Featured churches on display are: Dallas City Temple Seventh-day Adventist, First Baptist Church Hamilton Park, Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church, Good Street Baptist Church, The Park (Hamilton Park United Methodist Church), Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, The Rock (Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church), Munger Avenue Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, People's Missionary Baptist Church, Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, The Potter's House, St. John Missionary Baptist Church, St. Luke Community United Methodist Church, St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. Peters Catholic Church, Salem Institutional Baptist Church and Warren Avenue Christian Church.
