MICHAEL MULLER PRODUCTIONS in collaboration with DragStrip Courage present
The Bald Soprano/The Lesson
by Eugene Ionesco
Eugene Ionesco, often called the Father of Absurdism, provides us with plays that are simultaneously hilarious, tragic, and profound, first produced together in 1957, this program has run continually at Theatre de la Huchette in Paris for 60 years. The Bald Soprano presents us the quintessential middle-class world of the Smiths and the Martins, driven over the edge by their Maid and the visiting Fire Chief, who must extinguish all fires. The Lesson gives us the Professor, who with the help and interference of his Maid, presents his Pupil with a Lesson she and the audience can't escape.
60 years ago these plays were groundbreaking and today they are a profound reflection on our current world and its complexity
