Documentary Screening: "Man on Fire" + Filmmakers Discussion

Texas Christian University

TCU alumnus James Chase Sanchez returns to DFW with director Joel Fendelman to screen their documentary film Man on Fire.

The film focuses on Grand Saline, Texas, a town east of Dallas, that has a history of racism--a history the community doesn’t talk about. This shroud of secrecy ended when Charles Moore, an elderly white preacher, self-immolated to protest the town’s racism in 2014, shining a spotlight on the town’s dark past.

“Man on Fire” untangles the pieces of this protest and questions the racism in Grand Saline today.  The film recently won an International Documentary Association (IDA) Award; had its world premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival (which coincides with Sundance Film Festival); and will be featured in the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and San Luis Obispo Film Festival

The film will be screened at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 1. Free and open to the public, the screening and discussion will take place on the TCU campus in Sid Richardson Lecture Hall 4.
