Sammons Center 30th Anniversary Jazz Concert featuring Diane Schuur and Arlington Jones & The Brethren

Moody Performance Hall

The Sammons Center celebrates its 30th anniversary with a very special concert at Moody Performance Hall. Sammons Jazz Artistic Director, pianist, composer, and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones kicks off the concert with his group, Arlington Jones & The Brethren, in a toe-tapping, finger-snapping, hand-clapping, head-bobbing experience. The Brethren features Brannen Temple on drums and Nick Clark on bass.

Internationally-acclaimed jazz vocalist/pianist Diane Schuur leads her ensemble in a memorable second set that showcases the rich stylings of jazz. Discovered “officially” by sax virtuoso Stan Getz at the 1979 Monterey Jazz Festival, Schuur has since won two Grammy Awards and developed a worldwide following for her live and recorded performances. Her latest CD, I Remember You (With Love to Stan and Frank), is an homage to Getz and Frank Sinatra and aptly describes what her audiences feel after one of her concerts.

Blind since her premature birth, Schuur has participated in many charitable and educational projects including fundraisers for The Braille Institute, Music Doing Good, Inc., and the World Institute on Disabilities. Performing with Schuur, fondly known as “Deedles,” are Roger Hines on electric and acoustic bass, John Nastos on saxophone, and Kendall Kay on drums.
